The Chairman of British Rail announced the opening of Britain’s first short sea container port to be built at Parkeston Quay. The terminal was to be built at the Eastern end of the Quay on the sites of No 1 Berth, the Repair Berth, No 1 Transit Shed, and the Marine Workshops.
