Princess Anne’s boyfriend Lt Mark Philips kissed her goodbye at Harwich as he left for a two-year tour of duty in Germany. A veil of secrecy surrounded the 24-year old Lieutenant’s departure from the quay and even security staff were kept in the dark until he arrived.
